Released in December 2002, the RX-78-2 was the first Gundam kit released under the now-famous Ver.Ka banner, making it an especially significant model for collectors interested in the history of Bandai’s Master Grade range.
Classic Gundam Design with Ver.Ka Styling
Rather than radically changing the RX-78-2, Katoki gives the original Gundam sharper proportions, additional mechanical detailing and the dense military-style markings that would become a hallmark of later Ver.Ka releases.
Underneath the colour-separated armour is a fully articulated Master Grade construction with double-jointed elbows and knees, articulated hands and the internal detailing expected from the MG line. The kit also includes extensive marking stickers and dry-transfer decals for builders who want the full Ver.Ka appearance.
One of the standout engineering features is the transforming Core Fighter. It can be displayed separately as a small fighter or transformed into the Core Block and installed inside the Gundam's torso. A fixed cockpit block is also supplied if you'd rather display the Core Fighter alongside the completed mobile suit.

How to Build
A good pair of hobby nippers and careful nub cleanup are recommended. The white armour is particularly well suited to panel lining, and taking the time to apply the supplied Ver.Ka markings significantly changes the appearance of the completed model.
The kit uses colour-moulded snap-fit parts, so glue and painting are not normally required.
